Biometric health screenings are an on-site offering for our employees that provide a general health check for the purpose of assessing key indicators of significant risk factors. These factors may range from the realm of cardiovascular health, diabetes or other health risks. Tests generally include:
-
Testing blood glucose levels
-
Blood pressure
-
Measuring cholesterol (HDL, LDL, Ratio)
-
Assessing Body Mass Index (waist circumference, height, weight, BMI)
The main benefit to this wellness program offering is the education that it provides to employees. Combining these results with a health risk assessment (personal health profile) and one-on-one health coaching equips employees with important medical information that they can use in discussions with their own physicians.
The screenings are provided by Health Advocate, the nation's largest health advocacy and assistance company, and a leader in health screenings. The screenings are safe and 100% confidential.

About Cholesterol Screenings:
The testing device, strips and method we use have been approved by, and follow the guidelines of, the NCEP (National Cholesterol Education Program). Non-fasting fingerstick cholesterol with glucose testing is an effective screening tool. It will, however, not produce precisely the same results as a venipuncture (blood draw from a vein) cholesterol test would. This is primarily due to tissue fluid that is present in the finger, and not in the vein. As a result, the accuracy of the non-fasting fingerstick cholesterol test will typically be approximately 5% less accurate than non-fasting venipuncture results. Many physiological factors can influence cholesterol levels, such as fasting, alcohol consumption, diet, exercise and stress, which can affect the test results from day to day and month to month. Therefore, it's not unusual for test results from a previous test to vary from the test results from today's test. Other factors that may interfere with the fingerstick test are: high doses of Vitamin C (usually 1,000 mg or more), blood iron levels (above 55% or below 30%), certain medications, alcohol consumption in the past 24 hours, or hand creams that contain glycerol. Also, cholesterol will be temporarily low during acute illness, chronic liver disease, cancer, or during extreme stress. The goal for our on-site health screenings is to alert people to potential health concerns, as opposed to making a diagnosis. Please share your results with your healthcare provider.
Our health plan is committed to helping you achieve your best health. Rewards for participating in a wellness program can be earned by all employees.
If it is unreasonably difficult due to a medical condition for you to achieve the standards for the incentive under this program, or if it is medically inadvisable for you to attempt to achieve the standards for the incentive under this program, you might qualify for an opportunity to earn the same reward by different means. Call LifeWorks at 1-888-456-1324 and they will work with you to understand your limitations and develop another way to qualify for the incentive.
LifeWorks and Barnes Group consider the privacy and security of your personal information a top priority. No one at Barnes Group will have access to your individual health assessment, biometric screening results or other healthy activity results unless you volunteer the information. In addition, LifeWorks’ systems are designed to ensure the protection of your data, using the highest security standards.
